That Don't Make No Sense

Okay, I’m confused.

Iran has agreed to let a watchdog agency inspect their nuclear facilities. The Bush administration considers this a stalling tactic, intended to avoid U.N. penalties that would further isolate Iran.

Iran maintains that it has no intention of making nuclear weapons. But the United States, Britain and France suspect the intent of Iran’s uranium enrichment program is to make nuclear warheads.

Condoleeza Rice told CNN’s “Late Edition” that “the international community is completely of one mind, that no one wants, needs or really can tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran in the midst of the world's most volatile region.”

Who exactly is the international community? Apparently, of the 192 countries recognized by the United Nations... only three are ready to impose sanctions and consider military action.

Anyway...

So… Condi. Iran neighbors Pakistan, which has nuclear weapons. Pakistan borders India, which has nuclear weapons… and India now has George W. Bush’s solemn promise that the U.S. will share nuclear technology (kinda like we did with Iran some 30 years ago... see previous blogs). Oh… and lest we forget Israel… they have nuclear weapons too.

The difference between Iran and Pakistan, India and Israel? Iran is the ONLY one who has actually signed the Nuclear Non- proliferation Treaty! Which in short means, they are by law allowed to continue with their efforts to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. Those other countries broke the law… but apparently we don’t care.

And now we’re in bed with India.

Probably because we outsourced over 300,000 jobs to India last year… so we don’t want to piss them off.

So… how come other countries in the “world’s most volatile region” get to have nukes but the U.S. starts freaking out because Iran has reached the magic number... to produce nuclear ENERGY? And don't tell me it's because the Iranian president is a few cards shy of a full deck... so is the president of North Korea... but his name seems to have mysteriously dropped off everyone's radar.

Oh... that's right. There's no oil to be found in North Korea. Silly me.

How come, as leader of the free world, Georgie hasn’t had a sit-down with the President of Iran and tried to work sh*t out… mano a mano? You know… like world leaders are SUPPOSED TO DO… talk it out… AVOID WAR AT ALL COSTS.

You know why? Because he doesn’t care. He wants to do to Iran what he did to Iraq… regime change and control their oil fields. Mark my words.

And for that matter, why is anyone allowed to have nuclear weapons? We go after people like Saddam Hussein because he may (NOT) have weapons of mass destruction… but we don’t measure ourselves by the same yardstick.

Hell… Bush loves to talk about how Saddam tortured thousands of people… and yet Bush himself has thrown out the Constitution and the Geneva Convention… and basically told the American people he’ll torture people if he wants to. He’s the “decider” afterall.

But I digress.

Back to the yardstick.

We are a nuclear state. Nuclear weapons, in case you haven’t read your history books and perused through something called “The Manhattan Project” or seen the horrific images of the aftermath of Hiroshima., are the MOTHERF*CKER of all weapons of mass destruction.

Military action is not an option. Pre-emptive strikes are unconstitutional and morally wrong. Bush needs to be beat over the head with a diplomatic stick.

Take a number.

Popular argument.

First of all, India, Pakistan and Israel have all either refused to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty... or violated it without repercussions... and have known nuclear weapons programs. Iran is fully within its right to further develop the nuclear energy program the U.S. bankrolled for them nearly 40 years ago.

But I digress.

We must act responsibly. We cannot invade or attack Iran because the country's leader, albeit a few cards short of a full deck, says he's going to "wipe Israel off the map."

Leaders all over the world shout rhetoric from the podium all the time. Kim Jong-il, Hugo Chavez, Ehud Olmert, George Bush... all have issued threats. It's the way of the political machine.

But we cannot drop a bomb without a smoking gun. Until Iran makes a military move and attacks Israel... or violates the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (which they haven't done)... we'd best behave ourselves.

Or we will reap what we sow.

On a side note... it will be a good day when schools have all the money they need and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomb. :)
